WHEN TO VISIT AVORIAZ

The best time is from mid-December to early April.

BEGINNERS

A good choice for beginners thanks to its friendly, relaxed atmosphere and great facilities for first time skiers and boarders. The ski area includes a dedicated learning area on the edge of the village making getting to and from the area incredibly easy. Beginners will be delighted with will delight the vast majority of the wide open and easy nature of pistes. The blue run from Pointe de Mossette to Ardent is around 8 to 10km, making it the perfect place to practise and improve on technique to master new aspects of skiing.

WHO IS AVORIAZ BEST FOR?

Avoriaz is one of the best choices for families, intermediate skiers, non-skiers and weekend ski trips. Avoriaz is a purpose built ski village located in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps, just south of the Swiss border & Lake Geneva. By road, Avoriaz village is only 94km (1.5hr) East of Geneva airport via the nearest major town (& ski resort) of Morzine. Morzine is a mere 13km (20min) from Avoriaz. The closest train station is at Cluses, 42km (1hr) to the south. Perched spectacularly on a clifftop, it is an architectural wonder allowing some of the best ski-in/ski-out access in The Alps. Its seamlessly interlinked lift system and vast terrain combined with a base altitude of 1,800 meters and predominantly North aspect terrain allows it to maintain wonderful ski conditions throughout the winter months.

RESORT GUIDE

FOR KIDS

Whilst the neighbouring areas of Morzine and Les Gets provide a wider range of childcare facilities, Avoriaz still has plenty going on to keep the little ones entertained. The excellent beginner area provides the perfect place for children making their first turns, whilst the tropical themed Aquariaz pool complex offers a great place to spend bad weather days cruising down its lazy river and halfpipe slide. The village is also stacked with features and facilities to entertain and teach children the joys of skiing, the ESF Village Des Enfants in the centre being a particularly special place for little ones. Taking children from the games of 3 – 16, there are no shortage of option available for parents looking to give their children the best chance to learn to ski on holiday.

APRES SKI & NIGHTLIFE

The Yeti has a good apres-ski atmosphere and is quite busy at around 4pm. Brits tend to head to the Tavillon where there is Sky TV and good draught beers.

For a dance, head to the Choucas. They also have live bands. There is also more choice in Morzine, it is possible to take a Taxi.

There is also a Folie Douce for those looking to go all out after a day of exhilarating skiing, if everything lines up perfectly this is also a great place to watch the sunset from.

MOUNTAIN RESTAURANTS

In the hamlet of Les Lindarets you will finding some cute and rustic chalets offering a number of good options for lunches on the hill.

The Jolly Cremailliere has wanderful chanterelle mushrooms and a lovely atmosphere and on a good day the Terrasse is just the perfect place to be.

The rustic Grenouille du Marais located at the top of the Morzine gondola has great views and food. At the top of the Swiss wall, you will find the Refuge des Brocheaux and the Pas de Chavanette which have both been recommended.

IN RESORT RESTAURANTS

More pricey than most is the Table du Marche, which is found in the hotel Dromonts, the food there is excellent and worth it. For good food and value for money then try; Fontaines Blanches for Savoyarde food, Douchka for its tasty Moroccan dishes and Intrets for its pizzas. For a more cosy meal out the head to the Au Briska. For cheap and cheerful, Changabanga is the best place for burgers etc.
